paul-rudd Another hotly contested role has been settled, with The Wrap reporting Paul Rudd has landed and is now in early talks to play “Ant-Man” for Marvel and director Edgar Wright.

Rudd emerged as a frontrunner for the role alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt back in October, but with Gordon-Levitt recently committing to “Sandman” over at Warner Bros, it seemed like a matter of time before Rudd was given the official offer. Now Rudd is one step closer to becoming the scientist who invents a serum that allows him to shrink down to the size of an insect, while still maintaining his ability to kick ass alongside his fellow Avengers, of course. Filming should begin soon as “Ant-Man” recently got a bumped up release date of July 31, 2015. That’s just two months after “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” releases.

Rudd marks another comedic actor set to lead a Marvel franchise, following in the footsteps of Chris Pratt, who heads up “Guardians of the Galaxy” next summer, and of course, Robert Downey Jr’s “Iron Man” trades heavily on its comedic elements as well. Last seen reprising his “Knocked Up” role in “This is 40,” Rudd is currently out doing the rounds promoting sequel “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” and next month heads to Sundance to premiere “They Came Together.”
